Learn to Play Cricket!
Meraloma Junior Cricket is looking for enthusiastic boys and girls who want to learn how to play cricket, as well as those who already have some experience but want to improve their skills.
The Junior Cricket season runs for three months, from late April until late July, with weekly games and practices. We end our season with internal games and a family BBQ at Brockton Point in Stanley Park on Saturday, July 27, 2019.
Our Mini Cricket program is the only program in Vancouver aimed at the youngest cricketers. Mini cricket is played with a plastic bat and ball for 5-8 year-olds who want to learn the game. The Minis practice together on Wednesday nights at Connaught Park. Practices are full of fun, skills-based activities to introduce the basics of cricket. Internal games on Saturday mornings give everyone the opportunity to put those skills into practice in a fun, non-competitive atmosphere.
Our Kanga Cricket program is for boys and girls aged 9-12 years (with some players able to transition earlier). Kanga Cricket is played with a plastic bat and ball. Both experienced and new players are welcome! All Kanga players practice together on Wednesday nights. There are additional small group practices on Friday nights (on a rotating schedule of 6-8 players per week) to allow for more 1:1 time with the coaches to develop their technical skills in the nets. Games are on Saturday mornings against other teams from Metro Vancouver.
The Meraloma Cricket Club Hardball Cricket program is for 13-16 year-olds (again, with some players able to transition earlier). The Meraloma Club competes in the Vancouver Junior Cricket League, which is the first level of cricket involving wooden bats and leather cricket balls. Practices are on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Training will involve fielding, bowling and batting with our new junior bowling machine! Games are on Saturday mornings against other teams from Metro Vancouver, including Surrey.
Meraloma Junior Cricket is coached by former Canadian National Team member Iain Dixon, along with other experienced, qualified cricket coaches from Canada, India, Australia and New Zealand.
All practice sessions are held at Connaught Park in Kitsilano, Vancouver.
- Minis: Wednesdays, 6 - 7:15 pm
- Kangas: Wednesdays, 6 - 7:30 pm (& rotating Fridays, 6 - 7 pm)
- Hardball: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 5 - 6:30 pm
All Minis and Kanga games are held on Saturday mornings from 9-11 am at various grounds around Metro Vancouver. The Minis play mostly at Connaught Park in Kitsilano and Brockton Point in Stanley Park. The Kanga teams play at Connaught Park, Brockton Point, Hugo Ray Park in West Vancouver, Memorial Park in East Vancouver, and Mackin Park in Coquitlam. Hardball games will be on Saturdays at varying times on grounds in Vancouver, West Vancouver and Surrey. Games will start on Saturday, May 4, 2019, weather permitting.
Registration fees include Meraloma Junior Club annual membership (transferable to Meraloma Mini Rugby in the Fall) and a team cap. Players must purchase game kit separately: white shirts and black shorts for the Minis; white shirts and white trousers for the Kangas; and, new for this year, is black/orange kit for the Hardball team. All kit is available at a price subsidized by the Club. Upon request, we also have a supply of gently-used kit available at no cost.
Join us for Registration Night on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 from 6 - 8 pm at the Clubhouse at Connaught Park at 10th and Vine. Bring your child with you as we will have sample sizes of kit available to try on before ordering. Fees/kit can be paid by cash, cheque or e-transfer to firstname.lastname@example.org.
