Match Report : Meraloma II vs Langley I - 13 May

It was a bright and shiny Mother's day, blue skies all around, as the Meraloma 2's made their way up Highway 1 to face Langley I looking to bounce back from last week and climb above .500. After winning the toss and electing to bat things were off to a steady start at 50/1 off 15, but failing to build any significant partnerships and with wickets falling at consistent intervals, a large total was looking unlikely. Some batsmen had good starts but the field offered little in terms of value for shots. Our innings was the victim of 3 runouts and 5 lbw's.In the end, a total of 143 minus 5 penalty runs for batsmen running down the middle of the pitch, albeit an artificial one, was decent but certainly below par. After lunching on vegetable curry(chick peas, medium spice) and rice with a side of salad lacking much interest, we hit the field to defend 138. The opening bat and captain was very comfortable with the pull and flick while dispatching our bowling over mid wicket and cow corner for numerous sixes. A couple of  bowling changes could not stem the tide, so with 74/1 off 10, lomas were up against it. None of the other Langley batsmen got hold of our bowlers in such fashion but it was a crawl home for them after such a start. The most tense moment of the innings was a sideline argument in a foreign language which led to one player picking up a bat as a weapon. Cooler heads prevailed, but in the end Langley achieved the target losing 6 wickets. Lomas looking to improve in all facets for next week. Match Report by Richie Benjamin.
